Koh Mak Ferry from Laem Sok
Every boat to Koh Mak leaves from Laem Sok Pier near Trat. Here are the crossings, prices, journey times and the piers you actually arrive at — plus the mistakes that leave travellers stranded overnight in Trat.
In short
One pier, two kinds of boat
All public boats to Koh Mak depart from Laem Sok Pier, around 25 minutes south of Trat town. You choose between the Boonsiri catamaran ferry (smoother, carries vehicles on some sailings) and a speedboat (a few minutes faster, livelier in wind). Crossing time is roughly 45–50 minutes and arrival is normally at Ao Nid Pier.
The last boat of the day usually leaves Laem Sok around 15:00–16:00. Do not book a flight or bus that reaches Trat later than early afternoon.

Arriving
Ao Nid Pier and Ao Suan Yai Pier
Ferries dock at Ao Nid Pier on the east coast; a few speedboats use Ao Suan Yai Pier in the north. Resorts send a songthaew for guests — send your boat name and arrival time ahead and the ride to Ao Kao or Ao Suan Yai takes 10–20 minutes. There are no metered taxis on the island, so if you arrive unannounced you may wait for a shared pick-up.

How to book without overpaying
- Book direct with the ferry operator, or ask your resort to reserve seats — resorts on Koh Mak are family-run and usually book at the local price.
- In high season (December–February) and over Thai public holidays, reserve a day or two ahead; boats do sell out.
- Keep your return open if the weather looks unsettled, and reconfirm the day before.
