One pier, two kinds of boat
Koh Mak has two mainland piers. The Boonsiri, Seudamgo and Koh Kut Express boats leave from Laem Sok Pier. The Panan, Leelawadee and Koh Mak Ferry speedboats leave from Laem Ngop Pier. This page covers the Laem Sok crossing; for Laem Ngop, see Getting to Koh Mak. You choose between the Boonsiri catamaran ferry (smoother) and a speedboat (a few minutes faster, livelier in wind). Crossing time is roughly 45–50 minutes and arrival is normally at Ao Nid Pier.

Arriving
Ao Nid Pier and Ao Suan Yai Pier
Ferries dock at Ao Nid Pier on the east coast; a few speedboats use Ao Suan Yai Pier in the north. Resorts send a songthaew for guests — send your boat name and arrival time ahead and the ride to Ao Kao or Ao Suan Yai takes 10–20 minutes. There are no metered taxis on the island, so if you arrive unannounced you may wait for a shared pick-up.

How to book without overpaying
- Book direct with the ferry operator, or ask your resort to reserve seats — resorts on Koh Mak are family-run and usually book at the local price.
- In high season (December–February) and over Thai public holidays, reserve a day or two ahead; boats do sell out.
- Keep your return open if the weather looks unsettled, and reconfirm the day before.

How do I get the ferry to Koh Mak from Laem Sok Pier?
Laem Sok Pier, about 25 minutes south of Trat town, is the main departure point for Koh Mak. The Boonsiri, Seudamgo and Koh Kut Express boats leave from here; the local speedboats leave from Laem Ngop. Buy your ticket online or at the pier counter, arrive 30–45 minutes early, and the crossing to Ao Nid Pier on Koh Mak takes roughly 50 minutes by catamaran ferry or 45 minutes by speedboat.
What time do the ferries to Koh Mak leave?
In high season (roughly November to April) departures from Laem Sok normally run in the late morning and early afternoon, with the last boat to Koh Mak usually leaving around 15:00–16:00. In low season the number of daily crossings drops and afternoon sailings can be cancelled in rough weather. Always confirm the exact timetable a day or two before you travel — schedules change with the season.
How much does the ferry to Koh Mak cost?
Expect roughly ฿400–600 per person one way for the Boonsiri catamaran ferry and a similar range for the speedboat, depending on operator and season. Combined bus-plus-ferry tickets from Bangkok are also sold as one fare. Children pay reduced fares. The boats carry passengers only.
Can I take a car or scooter to Koh Mak?

Which pier do boats arrive at on Koh Mak?
Most ferries and speedboats arrive at Ao Nid Pier on the east side of the island; some speedboats use Ao Suan Yai Pier in the north. Resorts arrange pick-ups for both — tell your resort your boat and arrival time in advance and a songthaew will be waiting.
What happens if I miss the last boat to Koh Mak?
There is no night crossing. If you miss the last departure you will need to stay overnight in Trat town or near Laem Sok Pier and travel the next morning. Because of that, avoid booking a flight or bus that lands in Trat after early afternoon.
Do ferries to Koh Mak run in the rainy season?
Yes, but with fewer sailings and occasional weather cancellations between roughly June and September. Build a buffer day into your plans if you have an onward flight, and keep an eye on our news and updates page for current timetables.
