Getting to Koh Mak

The overview of every route to Koh Mak: flights to Trat, bus and minivan from Bangkok, private transfers, and all three boat operators, with a deep dive on the Laem Sok crossing on its own ferry page. Koh Mak takes a little planning to reach — and that little effort is exactly what keeps it so peaceful. Passengers only — no car ferries, keep the island remote and natural. It is actually very easy to reach from Bangkok, or anywhere central, or from the East Coast. It is just 320km away from Bangkok. Please book the boats in advance and plan your trip around the boat schedule; you might miss the last trip to Koh Mak (often around 15.00 and 16.00).

Important: Speedboats (Panan & Koh Mak Ferry) and Boonsiri Catamaran operate and run all year. Please book the boats in advance. We recommend the local speedboats (Departing from Laem Ngop). Option 02 · Fastest

Flight + Speedboat

~3–4 hours total

Bangkok Airways flies daily from Suvarnabhumi (BKK) to Trat (TDX). A short taxi, then a boat.

  2. 2.Taxi to Laem Ngop or Laem Sok pier — 20–25 min
  3. 3.Speedboat to Koh Mak — 30–60 min

Bangkok Airways PG305 leaves Suvarnabhumi at 11:40 and lands at Trat at 12:40 in the current timetable, early enough for the afternoon speedboats from Laem Ngop. In last year's winter timetable it landed at about 13:45, which left the 16:00 speedboat. PG307 lands at 17:15 and cannot reach the island the same day. Last boats leave at about 15:00–16:00. Private speedboats do not operate in the dark.

Bus + Speedboat

One combined ticket from Bangkok all the way to the island — the most hassle-free way to arrive.

Schedules shift with the seasons. Always verify with the operator before travel — these are the regular high-season routes. We  recommend for the authentic island travel vibes the local speedboats. The speedboats are faster and provide personal services. The pier Laem Ngop is 30 -40 min. closer the Trat Airport and Bangkkok.

  • Laem Ngop (Krom Luang Pier)

    Historic pier, recommended by insiders, services the Panan Speedboat Company and Koh Mak Ferry Speedboat. Some other speedboat operators still run direct Koh Mak routes from here — check your specific operator. Covered overnight parking is available at this pier (Thida Tours). Departure from here is faster and feels more private than the bigger Laem Sok pier. 

  • Laem Sok Pier (Trat)

    The big and commercial pier for Boonsiri services and others — ~30 km from Trat City. Boonsiri, Seudamgo and Koh Kut Express all operated from here, and most combined bus+boat tickets land at this destination. It takes 1/2 an hour more to get here from Bangkok and Trat Airport.

    Home to Koh Mak Seafood restaurant and the island museum, Little Bay Hut, and the sunrise location of Koh Mak.

    Ao Suan Yai

    Some speedboats (Panan, Bang Bao Boats) arrive and depart here directly. At low tide in May/June, boats may redirect to Ao Nid.

  • Makathanee Resort Pier

    Ao Kao

    Leelawadee and Kai Bae Nor Nou (island hopping) dock here. At low tide in May/June, boats may redirect to Ao Nid. Please always book in advance.

Getting to Koh Mak — questions

Where does the private transfer pick me up?
Door-to-door: from your hotel anywhere in Bangkok, from Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), or from any address in central Bangkok, Pattaya or the East Coast. The driver meets you in the arrivals hall or at your hotel lobby and drives you straight to the pier at Laem Ngop, where the speedboat to Koh Mak departs. Door-to-room service from Trat Airport is also available. Please book this service 2-7 days in advance. 
What happens if my flight is delayed or the weather turns bad?
This is the main advantage of booking the private transfer through our management: if travel circumstances change — a delayed flight, a missed connection or a weather-related boat cancellation — we monitor the situation and rearrange the connections for you. You are not left at the pier on your own. The boats (Panan, Koh Mak Ferry and Boonsiri) run all year, but in strong wind individual crossings can be cancelled, and we will rebook you on the next available departure.
Is a deposit required for the private transfer?
Yes. A 50% deposit is required to benefit from the private transfer service, with the balance settled when the trip takes place. Returning guests receive a 5% discount on a return booking. Book through our management on WhatsApp +66 65 307 1160.
Can the private transfer take me all the way to my room on Koh Mak?
Yes. The door-to-door option covers the whole journey: car from Bangkok or the airport, the boat crossing, and the taxi or songthaew on Koh Mak to your resort or villa. With the electric BYD transfer you arrive at your room between 15:00 and 17:00, including the speedboat or catamaran ticket.
When is the last boat to Koh Mak?
The last scheduled departures are usually between 15:00 and 16:00, depending on the season and operator. Private speedboats do not operate in the dark, so flights landing after 16:00 (for example PG307 at 17:15) cannot reach the island the same day. Plan your journey around the boat schedule and book the boat in advance.

Speedboats and ferries run regularly in high season. During the rainy season (June–October), local speedboat operator schedules are slightly reduced. Boonsiri runs all year. Panan Speed Boat and Koh Mak Ferry run all year. We highly recommend the use of local speedboats instead Boonsiri to support the locals.
