Trat Airport to Koh Mak: Which Flights Make the Last Boat

By the Koh Mak Village team · Last updated 22 October 2026

Short answer: You can fly into Trat and reach Koh Mak the same day only if you land by about 14:30. The last boats leave Laem Ngop and Laem Sok between 15:00 and 16:00, speedboats don't run in the dark, and the taxi to the pier takes 20 to 25 minutes. Land later and you will spend the night in Trat.

Which flights make the last boat to Koh Mak?

Bangkok Airways flies from Suvarnabhumi (BKK) to Trat (TDX) daily. What matters is when you land, because you need to cover the taxi, the pier check-in and the crossing before the last boat leaves.

Your flight lands at TratBoat you can catchCan you reach Koh Mak today?
By about 13:45 (for example PG305 in the winter timetable)15:00 speedboat from Laem NgopYes, but tight. Hand luggage only helps.
About 13:45 to 14:3016:00 speedboat from Laem NgopYes, if you booked the boat in advance and go straight to the pier.
About 14:30 to 16:00None reliablyNo. Plan a night in Trat.
After 16:00 (for example PG307 at 17:10)NoneNo. Take the first boat the next morning.

The cut-offs are our rule of thumb: roughly 20 to 25 minutes by taxi, plus 30 to 45 minutes to check in at the pier, plus time for bags. Check the current Bangkok Airways timetable before you book, because flight times change with the season.

How do you get from Trat Airport to the pier?

Take a taxi or a pre-booked private car. The ride to either pier takes about 20 to 25 minutes. You can use two piers:

  • Laem Ngop (Krom Luang Pier): The historic pier that insiders recommend. It serves the Panan and Koh Mak Ferry speedboats, is closer to Trat Airport and Bangkok, has covered overnight parking, and feels more private than Laem Sok.
  • Laem Sok: The large commercial pier about 30 km from Trat city, used by the Boonsiri, Seudamgo and Koh Kut Express boats. It takes roughly half an hour longer to reach from Bangkok and the airport. See the Laem Sok ferry timetable and prices.

From the airport, Laem Ngop is usually the better choice.

Which boats connect after a flight?

These are the afternoon departures relevant to flying passengers. Timetables shift with the season, so confirm your exact crossing when you book.

OperatorPierAfternoon departuresCrossingFare
Panan and Koh Mak Ferry speedboatsLaem Ngop15:00, 16:0030 to 40 minutesAbout ฿550
Seudamgo catamaran (1 Oct to 31 May)Laem Sok14:20, 16:00About 1 hour฿600
Boonsiri catamaranLaem SokExtra run around 15:00 on busy days and weekendsAbout 1 hourFrom ฿400

The Boonsiri catamaran's regular daily departure is 11:45, which is too early for most flights. Book your boat in advance. Boats sell out in high season (December to February) and over Thai public holidays. Speedboats from Laem Ngop run all year, but in low season (roughly June to September) there are fewer departures, and strong wind can cancel individual crossings — see boat reliability by season.

What does a private transfer from Trat Airport cost?

Our private transfer collects you at Trat Airport and takes you to your hotel room on Koh Mak, with the speedboat ticket included. Prices per trip:

Group sizePrice
1 person฿1,550
2 people฿850 each
3 people฿650 each

Solo travellers can share a private transfer: the cost is divided by two or three people on request. Book 2 to 7 days in advance. If your flight is delayed or the weather turns, we monitor the situation and rearrange your connection, so you aren't left alone at the pier. Ask us to arrange your transfer on WhatsApp +66 65 307 1160.

What if your flight lands too late?

You have three practical options:

  1. Stay in Trat. Spend the night in Trat town or near Laem Sok pier and take a boat the next morning. This is the cheapest and most reliable choice.
  2. Change your flight. Choose an earlier flight from Bangkok that lands before the cut-off above.
  3. Go overland instead. From Bangkok, a bus leaves Ekamai for Trat in 4.5 to 5 hours, and a private car can reach Laem Ngop in time for the afternoon speedboat.

Nobody crosses to Koh Mak at night, so don't book a tight connection on your last day. If you have an international flight out of Bangkok, add a buffer day in case weather cancels a crossing.

What happens when you arrive on Koh Mak?

Most boats dock at Ao Nid Pier on the east coast. Some speedboats use Ao Suan Yai pier in the north, and in May and June low tide can redirect boats to Ao Nid. Resorts send a songthaew for guests, so tell your resort which boat you're on and when it arrives. There are no metered taxis on the island, and you may wait for a shared pick-up if you arrive unannounced. The ride to Ao Kao or Ao Suan Yai takes 10 to 20 minutes.
