Why Koh Mak Felt Like Maui 50 Years Ago — A Tennis Player’s Story
11 September 2026

By Michael S., tennis player from Phuket — I was fortunate to have visited Koh Mak (aka “The Magic Isle”) during August, the low season. Upon arrival I was totally overwhelmed by the indescribable beauty of the island and its unspoiled, empty sand beaches.
Let me put it in perspective this way: I was blessed to live in Hawaii on the Isle of Maui. It is universally considered one of the most exquisite tropical places in the world. I arrived there in 1979, long before the tourist boom. It was pretty much undiscovered.
My landing on Koh Mak, “The Magic Isle”, was like going back in time almost 50 years. The overwhelming vibe of every aspect of this very special place deserves to be revealed to those fortunate few who are lucky enough to visit.
It is noteworthy that the stewards of this sacred place are making a concerted effort to keep it as it presently is.
Do yourself and your loved ones a lifelong memory and, if you are qualified to discover it, don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime memory.
