The Review

I stayed on Koh Mak Island at the Good Times Resort. My main purpose for visiting was to participate in Muay Thai. The instructors, Phoenix Gym, location; really everything was perfect for what I wanted from my stay; it was definitely one of the best decisions I've made in a while!

The Island can be very activity-focused... sports, gym, yoga, etc, or it can be relaxing, peaceful & healing. Really, whatever you want out of your visit, you can easily make it happen! Also, the bonus is that the Island is easy to travel to and the views are amazing!

Very grateful to Yodying, the Muay Thai Instructors, Mr Peak, and everyone else I spent time with during my visit 🙏. I will be back soon

Where He Stayed and Trained

Good Times Resort is part of Koh Mak Village, where Yodying and Mr Peak look after guests and help arrange transfers to and from the pier. Phoenix Gym is the island’s Muay Thai gym: group classes and private sessions, with trainers who work with beginners and experienced fighters alike.

An Island That Takes Whatever Shape You Give It

A note from us: the part of this review we like best is the middle of it. Koh Mak really does run at two speeds. One week you can train Muay Thai twice a day, play tennis or pickleball, and rent a bike to ride the dirt roads out to the far bays. The next you can do almost nothing at all — a beach, a book, long lunches — and nobody thinks less of you. Most guests land somewhere in between, and because the island is small and easy to get around, switching between the two takes no planning at all.

Getting There Is the Easy Part

He lists the travel as a bonus, and it has not become harder since: fly or take a bus to Trat, then a short speedboat crossing to the island. Our Getting There page lists the current boat times, the piers, and private door-to-door transfers if you would rather not think about connections.

Thank you for the kind words, TaranVeer. The gym, the beach and all of us will be here whenever you make it back.
